Uploading your site
You can install your pages to the server using any of the following tools:
We have set the server up so that you can use any or all of the above three methods combined.
The following instructions are 'quick' instructions. You should read the manual which came with your software, regarding the settings and options:
FTP
- Connect to the server: Usually, you need to open a dialog box, and type in your dedicated IP address, username and password (these are provided to you after you sign up). Once the domain name is registered you can use the domain name in stead of the IP address (But you can keep using the IP address if you like)
- Navigate to the <root>/web directory, and upload the files there.
In order for the first page to load automatically you should name it Index.html
Microsoft FrontPage
- FrontPage has a quirk. It remembers the last connection method (Even if it was unsuccessful) please be aware of this. Also, it attempts to use it's FTP method if it doesn't 'see' the server, so you must be connected to the internet before you start this procedure.
- Connect to the Internet
- Open your local copy of your web
- Select File, Publish Web
- In the field, type: http://yourdomain.ca (Where yourdomain.ca, is your own domain name, of course) If your domain name is not yet registered or moved, you should use http://123.123.123.123 where 123.123.123.123 is your IP number (Given to you after sign-up.)
- FrontPage will return a 'username' and 'password' prompt.
- Fill in the username and password, and follow further instructions on the screen.
Web Publishing Wizard
- Start web publishing wizard
- Select the folder you wish to upload to the server
- In the 'Select a Web Server' dialog box, click on the NEW button
- In the 'Descriptive Name' field, type a name by which you will recognize the server
- Then Click on ADVANCED
- In the 'Connection Method' drop down menu, select 'FrontPage Extended Web' (Click Next)
- In the URL field, type the information about your web server:
- Your domain name and subdirectory as http://yourdomain.ca/ (Don't forget the slash)
- If your domain name has not been registered yet, you can use the IP address supplied to you as http://123.123.123.123/
- Continue by clicking next and answering the questions appropriately.
- Your web site will be uploaded.
